GH: A Scientific ApproachBy Chris Zaino, B.S. Exercise Physiologist, Personal Trainer/ Nutritionist, BodybuilderIn this article we are going to look at the scientific basis of Growth Hormone, what it does, how it effects your body, and then how we can apply this to developing our bodies. By the end of this article more things will make sense as far as the combinations of different substances to manipulate hormone control for maximum effects. III. Growth Hormone (somatotropic hormone [SE] or somatotropin)
A. Exerts its effects on almost all tissues of the body - global effect
B. 191 amino acid chain, 22,006 MW
C. effects: increases size, mitotic rate, number and specific differentiation
A. Metabolic effects:
1. Increases rate of protein synthesis in all cells by stimulating
the nucleus which thereby increases metabolism
2. Decreases rate of glucose utilization - spares glucose so it -
3. Increases mobilization of fatty acids
4. Used in Hollywood for preservation of youthful looks and - energy
5. Summary:
a. Enhances body protein
b. Uses up fat stores
c. Conserves carbohydrates (allows for >> - fuel to brain )
B. Protein anabolism:
1. Enhancement of amino acid transport through cell membrane
2. Enhancement of RNA translation to promote protein synthesis by
the ribosome
3. Increased nuclear transcription of DNA to form RNA
4. Deceased catabolism of protein and amino acids
C. Carbohydrate metabolism:
1. Decreased use of glucose for energy. This in turn will allow the body
to use more of its' fat for fuel.
2. Enhancement of glycogen deposition in the cells\
3. Diminished uptake of glucose by the cells and increased blood
glucose concentration - pituitary diabetes. NOTE: This is where
the use of Insulin, R-ala, Vanadyl, or other insulin mimickers
come into play. Due to the high levels of blood glucose that
will be floating in the bloodstream, Insulin and Insulin mimickers
should be used to shuttle the glucose back into the muscles and
liver. This will prevent hyperglycemia and or diabetic side
effects that may be associated with the use of Growth Hormone.
GH + insulin >> massive growth - over time insulin receptors will decrease >> Add testosterone to the above mixture and the growth is even more explosive! The added testosterone can come from an exogenous source such as injectable steroids, or the more safer use of legal supplementation of Prohormones such as FlexStar's Clomex.
G. Stimulation of cartilage and bone growth:
1. Increased deposition of protein by chondrocytic and osteogenic cells
2. Increased rate of reproduction of these cells
3. Conversion of chondrocytes into osteogenic cells
Note: This can be used to our benefit for strengthening and repairing cartilage in joints and bones over time. Through excessive weight training, your joints and bony structures will be much more well-maintained with the addition of higher Growth Hormone levels.
H. Somatomedins - lack will cause a diminished effect of GH even if GH
levels are normal.
Produced by the liver. Act as a catalyst.
NOTE: In order to keep the levels of Somatomedins well saturated in the liver, we must maintain optimal liver function. This can be done by limiting alcohol, cholesterol, taking supplements such as FlexStar's Revitalize. Regulation of secretion: Below are biological factors that will increase the natural output of GH by the pituitary gland in the body:
1. Starvation and protein depletion
(Kwashiorkor food intake but no protein) >> GH
2. Hypoglycemia or decreased fatty acids in the blood >> GH
3. Exercise >> GH
4. Excitement >> GH
5. Trauma >> GH
6. First 2 hours of deep sleep (non REM) >> GH
7. Stress >> GH >> long term can lead to type II diabetes.
NOTE: From the above you can see just how we can naturally increase our levels of GH. With exercise and the stress exercise will induce will raise GH levels. THermogenics such as FlexStar's Lipoburn will cause the stress/excitement response in the body to release GH. Eating a low carb diet will stimulate GH secretion, but on the other end of the coin, higher blood glucose from higher carb diets will inhibit the release of GH. Taking products such as FlexStar's hGH and FlexStar's Clomex, will further more increase GH levels and allow for better sleep also increasing levels of GH. As you can see, Growth hormone will affect every aspect of our physiology. As smart fitness enthusiasts, we must manipulate GH in order for it to positively yield the best results in attaining the physique we desire. By combining proper training, diet, high quality supplements, education, and truth you will take your physique much farther than thought possible.
